The Founder

Steel City Heart and Home is a non-profit organization founded by Pueblo native, Patrick Hayes, dedicated to transforming lives and rebuilding communities through safe and affordable housing solutions. Patrick’s journey is a testament to the power of change. Growing up in Pueblo, he navigated a challenging youth, becoming involved in gang activity and serving 22 years in prison for a murder committed in 1998.

Released in 2019, Patrick returned to a dramatically changed Pueblo, witnessing a stark increase in homelessness and drug addiction that deeply impacted his community and former acquaintances.

Finding stability and purpose in the structure of work, Patrick excelled, rising to a foreman position At a construction company before launching his own successful solar business.

This personal and professional growth ignited a profound desire to give back to the community he holds dear. Recognizing the urgent need for affordable housing options in Pueblo, Patrick founded Steel City Heart and Home.
